South Beach Diet Intro

The South Beach Diet is extremely successful and for good reason. I am going to use this as the example for two reasons; one it works, I haven’t met a single person that has tried it and hasn't lost the 10-15 pounds they say you will lose in the first two weeks; two, everyone that has tried it, knows that it is hard to stay on forever. Okay, some people can stay on it forever and like an extremely healthy lifestyle and I am proud of them. They will never again have a beer at a ballgame, they turn their lights off every Halloween, and love when broccoli crowns are on sale. They have also not reading this because they are where they want to be.

One thing South Beach does do very well is shock your system into driving up your metabolism. You will lose the initial weight and drop your waist size during their two week long "Phase 1". "Phase 2" will keep your metabolism charged, but that is where it starts to get tricky. As with every diet plan, keeping the weight off is the hard part. That is why South Beach calls its plan a way of life, not a diet. That is why it is successful, as it is written to be a way of life and not leave you hanging once the weight is gone with no further advice.

Is anyone still eating cabbage everyday as a long term way of life? Of course not! But it was a good way to lose weight right away and later just put it right back on!

How do I make it from day to day eating well when I have that unexpected business trip? How about the meeting that stretches through lunch and leaves me starving before I can eat? How about when the kids are sick and they can't hang out while Mommy slices and skins apples for a snack?

The answer is preparation. The answer is making your health a priority. Why have you made washing your hair every morning more important than taking a multi-vitamin?

How many times have you shown up at work and just forgot to get dressed?

If you train your brain, health will also become second nature. Your emotions will begin to surround the machine - you will feel better when you are healthy and bad (not guilty, just bad/drained) when you cheat. These are the things that start to make your body tell you what it needs rather than you just force-feeding your body and it dealing with what you gave it (by storing it as fat of course).
